I recently learned that November 1st through the 10th is Old Fashioned week… yes a little more than a week but in my opinion, you can never have too many Old Fashioned’s. Well that’s probably not true but you know what I mean.

What’s more fitting, is Old Fashioned week ended on my grandfather’s birthday. Old Fashioned’s were his drink of choice when we’d go out to dinner for a special occasion. I started drinking them about 4 years ago as an ode to him after he passed. Whiskey in general is my go to spirit but Old Fashioned’s hold a special place in my heart. So getting crafty for this cocktail was simple and so are the ingredients. I call this the Smoked Old Fashioned:
Ingredients:
- 1.5 – 2 oz – Low Gap Bourbon
- 1/4 -1/2 t – Tipplemans Barrel Smoked Maple Syrup
- 2-3 dashes – Angostura Orange Bitters
- Large Square Ice Cube
- Orange peel for garnish
Equipment:
- Rocks Glass
- jigger
- Cocktail spoon
Recipe:
- Place syrup and bitters into glass, stir
- Pour 1.5 – 2 oz of Low Gap into glass, stir
- Add Ice
- Garnish with a twist of orange peel
- Serve!
